PONCHO MAKES NEW FRIENDS

Description

Cindy, a nine-year-old girl, recounts how she met Poncho, a stray dog, who followed her home from school. The dog quickly becomes a beloved companion to the narrator and her brother, Donnie. Poncho is playful and energetic, and becomes woven into the family’s daily lives.
However, the dog disappears for days and then returns unannounced. After a few of these occasions, Cindy worries the dog might run away for good while the family travels to visit her cousins. Secretly, she locks Poncho in the cellar. Upon returning home, Cindy discovers her bad decision has caused problems for everyone, especially Poncho. She soon learns a few valuable lessons about love and responsibility.
